dear blog, how i've missed you. i caught a case of summer, but not to worry, i'm all better now and feeling almost fall-ishly fabulous. i've got all kinds of delicious things to show + tell. an update on the master bedroom, an inspiration trip to see the chihuly exhibit, and a multitude of decor re-mixes around the house.
talk soon,

one year ago
....we were moving into the new house! i can hardly believe its been a full year already. not only were we both working fulltime, finishing the building of the house [stonework + other miscellaneous projects], packing up our apartment + moving into the house BUT we found time to get pregnant on top of it all. actually i still think it might have been divine conception. all we know is that we're eternally grateful for our little surprise + to be enjoying the new abode!
a look back for memory's sake....
and finally, this time last year, complete + utter elation to be leaving our 750 sf apartment that had been crammed with furniture and boxes of building supplies for 9 months....
as well as working on the frustration known as our front stonework. did installing the stacked stone on our last house make it easy to do this time? no. were the pillars a cinch, as we thought they'd be? haaeeeeell no. was it wise to have all the stacked stone crates delivered to the END of our extra long driveway? um, no. so our backs broke + we were completely humbled. no big deal.
but not long after we moved in, finished building the mailbox, polished up the stonework, and got the lawn seed sprayed in we could finally relax and start to enjoy our new home. and it was all worthwhile. every last bit of planning, designing and sweating it out physically + mentally.
happy birthday, +the new house+!

one fine day
last week i had the most satisfying afternoon on the front porch. it was like for a few hours all the elements aligned into a glorious symphony comprised of a sweetly sleeping baby. a soft breeze stirring the air. a homemade caramel frappuccino. an intriguing book [the bright forever]. and a beautiful kiss of sunshine.

DAH bears.
and in a thrilling finale, when i did go inside at the end of it all, i got to watch usa win the world cup match against algeria. 'twas a happy day for all.
oh. and lest my head get too big, then, there was this.

1 trimester, 2 trimester, 3 trimester, floor.
this week marks the last in baby h's fourth trimester, as they call it. the first three months of his life. gone. over. donezo, a la the hills. and to think, only a thousand odd photos to remember it by. [i wish i were kidding. if a picture is worth 1000 words then....]

the timing got me thinking. for one thing, i had started thinking a year ago that i'd begin a separate blog about home life once the baby arrived, to update friends + family and to have a record of these extremely challenging -er- joyful moments. i've also been asked to chat about things like fashion or events or other lifestylish sorts of things. and now that i sit here with 3 months of mom-dom under my belt it got me thinking. rather than try to support multiple writing outlets why not embrace more fully the one that i have, without overwhelming it with doodoo deets either? in other words, why not be authentic to who i am + broaden the posting scope to other topics as they come.
so the goal: daily tweets from our life over here in the trees.

with the emphasis as it always was on our newly built house + the adventures of decorating it. and if i fall short of the daily goal, i won't be hard on myself but will carry on. i think this will take the pressure off having long detailed posts + will actually make life easier. we shall see!
....thanks for tagging along!

one month + one new baby later.
if my spelling or coherence seems to be whack from here on out, its because i'm now functioning with a mom brain. so far, my experience tells me this means my attention is inherently divided at all times and i can't string together a story for the life of me. [my husband would say i've never been able to tell a good story, as i've always loved interrupting even myself.] so if in the middle of a future decor post i query aloud about when i last changed my little man's diaper, don't worry, this is the new normal for me. just skip over the doo doo + get back to the decor dishing.
